I just received the orange variant of the Chinese AKM bayonet. Is it correct that, besides the bulge on the orange variant's scabbard, the scabbards can also differ in length? The orange one is about a centimeter shorter than the black one.

Hi Hans, As usual there are no detailed specifications for these bayonets and scabbards. They are made by different contractors for the collectors market. No military specifications or inspections. All the different colors of scabbards can be found with and without the “bump”. The “Bump” is a joke. Some of the Chinese makers copied the scabbards from other ComBloc countries AKM 6X4 Type II wire cutter scabbards. The bump is to keep a users hand from slipping and coming in to contact with the metal cutter plate at the end scabbard when using it to cut electrical wires. No Bump needed for non-wire cutter scabbard.
It’s a common joke about these bayonets and scabbards ……… No two the same? Scroll through the other posts in this section and you will see some of the other differences. Mike
