Russian Tula Made Type 2

Post by Michaelj607 »

I picked up this Tula bayonet as my first bayonet in the ak collection. It came with a leather hanger and hand strap which I thought most were canvas. Its obviously been re-serialized in an armory I was wondering if there is other stuff I missed that make it interesting or unique. Other wise very cool

ImageNice reconditioned piece from early production. Is the Tula star on the base behind the retaining ring?
The carrying device irritates me, please show me the other side of it.

This bayonet and scabbard are indeed a Russian AKM 6X4 Type II made by the Tula arsenal. The bayonet is fairly early production as the arsenal mark is on the front of the crossguard. The bayonet and scabbard do have matching numbers, but they are miss-matched and the numbers are hand etched and forced numbers. Both items have been rework at least once. The numbers have been re-done at least two times on the bayonet. The metal parts have been repainted with lots of overspray on the grip and scabbard body.
The hanger and strap are not original, but old style ones usually found on reworked bayonets or added at some time later. Russia did use a two buckle leather strap, but that was early in the 6X3 production. These are not usually found on later reworked bayonets as they take too much time to install. The leather hanger is also an early style with the smooth leather and the flat hook ring. These hanger were mass produced by a sub-contractor to be used as replacements and rework.
