AK47 Bayonet

Post by Hombre »

Sometimes in front of the computer the fingers are faster than the brain but I hope I didn´t do anything stupid... :-)
Anyway it was cheap so... Should really appreciate opinions, good and bad...

Best,
Stefan

Hi Stefan, I believe you got lucky! It appears to be a Finnish AK47 bayonet and scabbard made by the Izhevsk Arsenal in Russia to fill the 2nd or last contract. Complete and in excellent, like new condition. Congratulations!
You need to confirm a few things not shown in the pictures to make the identification positive. The scabbard should NOT have a drain hole and the leather hilt strap should be sewn to the fabric hanger. The right side of the bayonet pommel should NOT have a CB in diamond stamp which would indicate Russian military acceptance.
Note: The early, 1st Finnish contract, scabbards would have the two separate hanger bars. The one above has the 2nd contract one piece stamped sheet metal bracket. Mike

Hi Mike,
Thank you very much for your quick response. I really appreciate it!
The things I need to confirm I will be able to do next week when I hopefully will have it in my hand.
I will be back! :)
I really like this forum because I learn something new every time I am looking.

Best,
Stefan

Very nice find and great pictures. Russian made Finnish AK47 second contract bayonet and scabbard. However, I would still like to see the right side of the pommel. It should be unmarked!? Mike

Thank you for your kind words!
I tried to take a picture of the other side of the pommel... Unfortunately we have night time now but there is nothing... Unmarked!

Stefan
