Postby Hombre » Thu Aug 19, 2021 12:04 pm

Got a couple of bayonets today...
If I understand it right this is a Polish AKM Transitional Bayonet...
Should really appreciate opinions about it.

Best,
Stefan

You had a really good day! Two really nice bayonets! Congratulations! At first your title threw me off. I usually consider a "transitional" to be a Type I bayonet in a Type II scabbard. However you are correct, it works both ways.

This is an excellent example of a Polish AKM 6H4 Type II bayonet in the correct Type I scabbard. Like new condition with matching issue numbers. The hanger looks correct and I will assume the strap is also. The strap loop should be sewn and not riveted. I can not confirm this in the pictures. Below is a picture of one of mines showing the correct strap and installation.

As a side note, Poland did experiment with a Type II scabbard and appears to have made up samples / prototypes. Pictures and information regarding them are found in references and private collections. They were never produced or issued.
