Polish parade/dress bayonet

Post by NICO56 »

Yesterday, I received from Poland this Polish parade bayonet. A similar model is presented in this Polish book.

Sorry, but this is not a parade/dress bayonet and scabbard. If you read the accompanying text on page 20, the parade/dress bayonet is on the right side of the page pictured above, (Foto 1.7a). It has the metal hilt and scabbard body chrome plated which does not show up well in the picture.

The description of the the bayonet and scabbard on the left side, (Foto 1.7) reads as follows: " During the rummage in the yearbooks of the weekly "Zolnierz Polski" I found in the bayonet AK-47 in the 1974 burial ground photographs of the border protection army, having a light gray color (photo 1.7)". In other reference books these white or light gray painted bayonets are a form of temporary winter camouflages during field maneuvers. These painted bayonets and/or scabbards can be found from several other countries. In the examples I have seen similar to yours the paint is more similar to white/wash, easily removeable, non-permanent coloration. It is usually crudely applied with no attention to detail. Unfortunately easy to fake. Mike

Did anyone else notice that the locking piece is missing on the chrome plated parade/dress bayonet on the right in the first picture? This is a copy of a page from the Polish reference book. I wonder if this is intentional on a "parade" bayonet or just an oversight? Mike
