Re: Is this a bayonet for an AK?
I have an AK-74 flash hider in 14x1L and attached it to one of my AK47s. The distance from the back of the teeth on the front sight base to the ring on the muzzle device is roughly 75mm, so the distance from the front of the bayonet hooks to the rear of the bayonet ring would have to be about 76mm t...

Re: Is this a bayonet for an AK?
It looks like it could fit an early AK with some sort of barrel extension. I used a ruler to take a quick look at my AK74s and it appears the tip of the flash hider is about 17mm, so it would clear the ring. An extension like an AK74 muzzle brake/flash hider would move the attachment point for the r...

It's Russanian. Seriously though, I've never seen that and can't wait for those in the know to provide some good discussion.

Re: Any places to find bayonets for reasonable prices? 2022
I've had success with eBay, GunBroker, and Invaluable.com. Unfortunately, the best deals, regardless of whether in person or online, have been with misidentified or unidentified AK bayonets. I picked up my two N. Koreans, EG G36 (based on the AKM Type 2), Iraqi Type 2, and a few others from sites th...

Re: AK Bayonets!
I would think the giveaways are the font and direction of the serial numbers (perpendicular to the grip vs following the grip curve like the Russians use); the lack of the necessary stamps that would point to it being Russian or Polish; grip style and color (eliminating East German and Chinese). The...

Romy Type 1 with a mortise stamp?
Greetings. I found this recently and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this. It appears to be a Romanian AKM Type 1 with an arrow-in-triangle stamp on the mortise.

Re: Questionable modified pommel?
One more thing Mike, I tried to imagine a project to easily make 6X3 bayonets compatible with the existing AKM rifles and the new AK-74 rifles. If leaving as much of the bulbous area in place as possible was a consideration, I would have probably chosen to simply mill the top of the pommels perpendi...

Re: Questionable modified pommel?
To me, if I were looking at spending hundreds of dollars on such a bayonet, I'd invest a few dollars on a chopped, but complete, AK74 FSB and do a quick test, if possible. Therefore, I would agree with using a fit test as an easy eliminator of a copy or a legitimate mod. And you're quite right, my t...

Polish AK47 bayonet, but no date?
Just picked this up a few days ago. It does have the Circle 11 stamp, albeit filled in with some sort of white paint. However, it doesn't have a date stamp or any indication one was removed. The bayonet has an A-prefix serial number with the typical diamond stamp, although it's an incredibly clear s...

Re: Questionable modified pommel?
Could be. You never know. As for mounting on a different weapon, mine will mount on an either of my AK-74s, which the regular 6X3 won't because it won't clear. I could only guess that was the intent of the mod...to allow the huge inventory of 6X3s to go on either the existing AKMs or the new AK74s. ...

Re: Chinese Type 56 Folding Spike Bayonet
I used to have one of those on my MAK-90, until I debanned the entire gun. Here are some old pics I have of the clamp-on installed. I bought mine new and it came in a plastic bag with Chinese writing. One of the drawbacks of the clamp-on bayonet was that the cleaning rod would "walk" forwa...

Re: Russian and Bulgarian AK47 NOS Finds
I have a similar Izhevsk where the original serial number was over-stamped with Cyrillic "G"s, then restamped with a new serial number. Mine followed a circuitous route to me...I bought it from a pawn shop in Hawaii specializing in Cambodian items, where the owner had personally bought it ...

Maybe we should have a separate area for fakes and suspected fakes? I know I've seen examples here and there in the individual (by country) sections, but nothing bringing them all together.

Re: East German AKM 6X3 Type I bayonet Modified Pommel
I was checking references for this modification and found this one in a Russian collectors book. From the pictures this one appears a little more crude and looks like the top of the grip mid-section was also reduced. There is Russian text with the picture, but I am unable to translate it at this ti...
