It is interesting to see the Russian green compared to the Chinese green. Unfortunately, it is like comparing apples and oranges. The Russian grip is molded of industrial / military grade material to meet exacting standards. The Chinese ones are molded from the cheapest plastic to virtually no standards for the civilian market. Even if they would use the same dye / coloring they would still look different. Mike
PS: Neither one is made of Bakelite.

These "Green" bayonets and scabbards are unique to the Russian Border Guards. They are an integral part of their uniform and worn almost daily on duty. Lots of wear and tear. The metal Type I scabbards in particular are easily damaged and it appears they are often reworked, repaired, replaced, and reissued / re-numbered.
I did notice something unusual about all the "green" bayonets pictured above and other places. Under close examination the catch buttons are different from the ones found on most 6X4 type II bayonets. They seem to have sharp outer edges and the surface is smooth with small irregular indentions instead of checkering. The two most commonly found release buttons, (below), have a checkered surface, with and without beveled edges. Difficult to tell from the pictures, but most have the checkering points out. Some may have the checkering points in. Very similar to the checkered plastic buttons on the 6X3 type I bayonets.

For the record im sharing pics of another “border guard” bayonet.
This one is numbered 7730 and is of course much like the other ones i had through my hands.

- reused/reworked/repainted scabbard.
- old numbering is barely visible
- Blade shows sign of usage.
- Has some interesting stampings on the pommel.

They sometimes pop up for sale. Just keep an eye out on the popular pages/forums. I actually sold one myself recently.
