This is a US M1 .30 Carbine with a mounted US M4 bayonet (top picture). The modified Chinese T81 will fit on this carbine. It will not mount on a US M1 .30 Garand rifle (bottom picture). Mike

The top picture below is of a US M4 bayonet mounted on a US M1 Carbine. The modified Chinese T81 bayonet will also mount on this carbine. The lower picture is of a US M1 bayonet mounted on a US M1 Garand Rifle. The M1 Carbine and M1 Rifle bayonets do not interchange. Mike

Super Mike.
So verstehe ich das.
Den US M1 Carbine habe ich noch nie mit diesen Bajonettadapter gesehen ,so ergibt es einen Sinn.
Danke für diese Info.

What is a decent price for a PLA Tyoe 81 (not the commercial ones?)

IMHO The issued PLA version is currently worth $35.00 - $45.00 as an unusual collectable bayonet. No real value as a bayonet or knife. Not necessarily much of an investment either as the Chinese made a million(?) of them and have moved on to a newer weapons system. Mike

Mike, I would take any issued ones I can get my hands on at those prices.
I think people are easily getting double that for non-commercial ones. Can't even find them for sale, and I am looking for a few.

That was just an opinion, not from any recent experience. You could be correct as I have not observed any sales or trades for the issued ones recently. I will try to remember and watch for them for you. Just remember they made a lot of them and they could hit the market at any time. When a small lot of them came in 25 years ago (excess production?) they hardly sold even when the importer tried to convert them to mount on the US M1 carbine. If the Chinese would decide to release a few hundred they would flood the collectors market and be worthless again. Just my humble opinion. Mike

FYI One of the original batch that was converted to fit the M1 carbine is currently (5-14-18) listed on eBay if anyone is interested. Mike

That seller is a tool.
Selling it as a regular type 81 bayonet. When informed it was converted to fit an M1 bayonet, he plays stupid.
Then when told where it was converted, and that it is a known thing and not once off...he replies sarcastically "Ok, if it is well known, then I dont have to update listing, excellent. Thank you"

Hmm....hope the buyer claims their PP funds back when they get it.

Mr. B. wrote: Mon Jul 17, 2017 12:14 am Here is yet another "collectors" version of the Chinese Type 81 bayonet and scabbard. The following 10 pictures are from the past on eBay. Note the following differences from the PLA military issued ones. The pommel is a slightly different shape, cast and not machined, painted gloss black not blued. The pommel machine screws are not staked. The crossguard is thicker and painted black. The grips are a uniform smooth polished brown and appear to be soft plastic. The blade has different fullers, the edges sharpened and has been polished bright. The scabbard body has been polished smooth with no mold marks. Mike

I'm sorry to tell you, Mr. B, this bayonet is an imitation.

Yes, he is pointing out that it's an imitation one made for display or made specifically for commercial sale.
We are aware of all the fakes being sold currently. Thanks for the info corgi.

Hi Corgi. No problem I understand. Sometimes translations cause problems. The thread above shows both the real military ones and the imitations. Make sure you follow the entire post. Mike
