Kalashnikov Bayonet

Post by Hombre »

A friend of mine have this bayonet... Maybe not in the best shape and with no wrist strap... he should be grateful for opinions... Good or bad... :-) Sorry for bad pictures!

Best,

Hi Stefan, This is a Yugoslavian AKM 6X4 Type II bayonet and scabbard. It appears to be in very good used condition with matching numbers and original hanger. This one has the "R" code that is more unusual than the common numbers without the letter. There has been a lot of discussion about the "R" ones. They may indicate a separate production contract or perhaps numbered for Reserve or Replacement issue. Overall a nice matching item, just need a wrist strap to complete it.

Hi Mike,
Thank you very much for your nice words about my friends bayonet. He really appreciate it and me too because he is not really interested in bayonets and he just told me that he will give it to me as a gift! :) Interesting about this "R" ones... Again, thank you so very much for sharing...

Hi stephan,

As I can see it's a M70 zastava 6X4. Some years ago, I had one with R number series with a slovenian strap, so, the sender said me it was Slovenian. I don't know, but here is a question.......

Hi Stefan,
I think I understand your question. It is a possibility that the "R" code Yugos may have been a contract for Slovenia. However most of Slovenian hangers I have seen were shown with the standard Yugo bayonets. These hangers seem to be somewhat rare. Many came in without bayonets and were paired with Yugo bayonets. Some collectors even question the Slovenian hangers being novelty items made up for the collector's market and not actual military issue.
Large quantities of the Yugo bayonets were used by different factions during the Balkan Conflict. From what I have observed the "R" code bayonets have been randomly mixed in with the others when imported to the USA.

Hi stephan, hi Mike,

I agree with you Mike, still the balkanic war, M70 bayonets are avalable worldwide. For example, I could see some with israeli markings!!
But for slovenian, this is a way to search. Perhaps Croblade could say us what is the truth. Why not?
One thing is sure, R series are rares and good pieces to have!
