Can someone help me identify the country of origin of this scabbard?

It has some interesting design differences.

Very interesting indeed! A complete mystery to me. Russian experimental / prototype? Poland, Hungary or Egypt modifying Russian scabbard molds to create a unique design? It looks too professional to be a fake or replica. Mike

Alexander, Where did you find this scabbard or pictures? Do you have any information or history to go with it? What do you think it is? I have not found anything about it in my references, very curious. Mike

Hi Mike,
A gentleman contacted med asking for info on it. He was excited to know more.
The only info is that it was obtained in Ukraine.
For me its completely new item with interesting design. The gentleman does not own a bayonet intended for this scabbard.
My first thought was “prototype”…
Hopefully more info comes at some point..

I'm 90% sure it's a replacement scabbard from a Soviet weapons repair facility.
This one uses recycled components: the shearing part from Ischevesk and the clamping spring from Tula? which integrates the sheath body.
There are no form numbers or the logo, but the typical Russian color dot next to the bar for the snap hook.
This sheath really has some extraordinary practical details, the lateral drop that is supposed to give a non-slip hold and the lightened dam for the bridge.
It may also be a test design for this replacement sheath.

I agree with Gerhard. The basic molded scabbard body appears to be Russian. It could be something like the sub-contracted "window" marked Type II scabbards made as rework replacements? It could also be an early design before the start of Type II production, or a much later redesign attempt similar to the lightened pommels on the bayonets. Never accepted into production before the 6X4 was replaced by the 6X5 bayonets and scabbards. Mike

Mike, we won't really find out, we weren't there and it's always very difficult to judge from photos.
I once made something about the sense or desirability of this sheath, which can be better explained.
Instead of the cable tie, a metal slide or snap hook could also be provided.
I'm thinking of an experimental design or a design by a subcontractor.
6X4 sheaths and all subsequent (6X5) sheaths have almost the same characteristics as the 6X4 sheaths.
I still have an almost identical feature from the subcontractors with "window" scabbard, for documentation.
