I am told by someone in Europe that this is the new style VZ58 scabbard, and that they are also available in desert camo.

Yes, examples of this new scabbard in both foliage and desert camo have been listed in eBay. Whether they were a commercial copy or a military overrun is unknown. The Czechs started development of a 5.56mm rifle system from 1986 -89 and adopted System "Lada" in 1991. This system included a new bayonet design. Somewhat similar to the VZ58 bayonet in size and style. The New design still has the mounting slot incorporated in the top of the hilt, but the catch is now located in the pommel. The blades are the same size and profile as the VZ58 and will fit both the VZ58 leather scabbard or the new fabric pattern. It appears that the early "Lada" prototypes, (M63), did use the original VZ58 scabbards. The new 5.56 system has replaced the VZ58 and it has been relegated to reserve status. This explains the large number of VZ58 bayonets available in the last few years. Even though the VZ58 bayonets fit in the new fabric scabbards this is not a correct match. M.

I just received a couple of Christmas presents from the Czech Republic. New style VZ-2000 ("LADA"), scabbards, but unfortunately without the latest bayonets. They came in the original storage bags with inventory labels, (2008). The Velcro belt loop has a plastic locating pin similar to the Lithuanian fabric hangers. One strange thing I noticed is that the snap & Velcro hilt loops cross in different directions!? Pictured with Type III VZ58 bayonets. Mike

I recently found a picture online that shows some additional variations of this style of Czech VZ58 scabbards. The different "woodland" pattern, second from right, has camouflaged edging and hilt strap were as the first pattern, second from left, had plain color. The scabbard on the far left appears to be designed to hang vertically point up? Mike

It appears that the conventional belt style of hanger has been replaced by more modern and functional designs. Here are borrowed pictures of more recent Czechoslovakian load bearing equipment. This is a version of a woodland camouflaged vest with an integral sheath for a bayonet or knife. I believe there also may be desert camo and other versions available. Mike

I was wrong! I finally got my hands on one of the new style pouches. It is not for the VZ58 bayonets. The blade is a little over an inch too long. Overall the whole bayonet is also too long for the pouch. It seems to me to be for a shorter fighting knife, type unknown. There are several sew patterns of this pouch and it is also available in desert camo. Mike

Brand new in the original bag. It is not for a bayonet, so I do not need it. First $20. plus shipping takes it. Mike
