Very nice. I find it interesting that this is a 6X4 knife in a 6X3 scabbard.
I have a standard orange grip 6X4 Izhevsk knife in a match numbered 6X3 scabbard. It has a 3 digit serial number.
I also noted that the standard orange plastic grip pin was used.

I am fairly sure that scabbard is not original to the bayo. Stamping may have been done later. There is no info that these were ever issued with Type 1 sheaths. Nice bayo, but needs more research.

Brian,
According to my information the border guard bayonets were issued with older 6x3 scabbards and then forced matched at some point. Mine shows clearly that new numbers were added on top of the older ones.
Yes, there is still a lot of mystery surrounding this particular variation. Hopefully more info will surface.

Here are my two current border guard bayonets in all their green glory. Each of em has some interesting details to observe.
It is my theory that these were developed before the 6x4 plastic scabbard came into place and therefore these are paired and matched with repainted/existing 6x3 scabbards.
They both have one painted inspection mark. No pencil stripe markings and varying visibility of stamped markings.

Here is the first one in detail. Serial number is 2573 and at close observation it is visible that the scabbard was renumbered to match the bayonet. Old numberd can be seen.
The bayonet has very faint stampings on the side of cross guard. I see a <cb> faint stamping and an oval circle 11.
The blade shows sign of some pulling from the scabbard, but is in overall good condition. Im not sure if these scabbards were used before they ended up being paired with the border guard bayonet. The bulging on the scabbard could indicate prior use and the repainting? Im not sure. Or is it from the initial production?
Im interested in knowing more about the scabbards paired for these bayonets.

This is the second one. Serialized 4930. This bayonet shows a more obvious force matching of the scabbard. Existing numbers are stamped over and new ones applied. I dont see older numbers underneath the new ones.
Inspection marks on the cross guard are even more faint on this example.

I see an “M” stamped on the pommel. The same mark is found on my Tula 6x4 in 6x3 scabbard.

Excellent !
I don't see a problem with the newly numbered scabbard, they are everyday objects
Thanks for introducing these bayonets.
