Algerian bayonet

Post by NICO56 »

On an Algerian forum devoted to military questions, I could find these photos of bayonets, resembling that of Chinese type 87, but used for Algerian type 56.

Nice find. That is in the format of your basic Chinese export catalog but is from an Algerian company using an Chinese arsenal code of 831 and is in Arabic and French. They are referring to the rifles as the Type 89. Black gripped version of the Type 81 with wire cutter scabbard is definitely interesting as is what looks like a local produced version of the Soviet GP25 under barrel grenade launcher. They also appear to produce an RPK with what appears to be a horizontal drum in the catalog photo, a Makarov copy, and a 12 gauge pump shotgun. The Makarov and 12 gauge would be copies of copies produced by the Chinese.

It's a PM89 bayonet, it's not a black type 81 but an algerian made type 87 bayonet like NICO said

Didn't mean it was a Chinese made piece. But its heritage is from the Type 81 bayonet.

The algerian bayonet straps seem to be in leather or false leather while those of the Chinese version are in cordura

I have just received this bayonet, it seems to me identical to the one subject of the post. You can see the blade is the same as Ilian Bayonet (Chinese Type 85). She was brought back by French soldier who fought in Mali

Hi,

Great find!

For info it's not Type 85 but type 87 and if it's an algerian made version it's a "Modèle 89" bayonet.

I made a comparison between this model and the commercial version. You will observe that the handles are different (shapes and rivets). The blade is not fixed in the same direction, moreover it has a shape which is not identical. Finally, on the end of the scabbard of the commercial version, there is no sign of manufacture (welding, riveting).

Nico, thanks for the comparison pictures. Very interesting. Saved me a lot of time trying to compare my commercial one to your pictures.
