Hungarian AKM 6X3 Type I Export Version

Post by Mr. B. »

This is a late version of the Hungarian AKM 6X3 Type I bayonet and scabbard. It is devoid of any markings. This one was assembled with different accessories for contract or export sales. The box these bayonets came from was marked, "Made in Hungary", and came from an address in Hungary addressed to an importer here in the USA. These were supposedly put together to simplify and reduce the cost of the strap and hangers and make them easier to market. The belt hanger is natural tan leather with embossed edge lines and a common snap fastener. The hanger hook has a groove in the back and appears similar to the East German (DDR) hooks. The fabric one buckle strap appears similar to the DDR version in weave, color and rivet. It is my opinion that the Hungarians took advantage of the fall of the DDR and picked up surplus materials to help market their mass produced bayonets and scabbards. Mike
