Hungarian AKM 6X3 Type I Early Version

Post by Mr. B. »

This is believed to be the early or first version of the Hungarian AKM 6X3 bayonet and scabbard. This variation was made for internal use by the military branches, militia and law enforcement. They have grips made of semi-clear material and with fiber reinforcement giving a marbled appearance. They are issue numbered with four digits stamped on the side of the cross guard and the last three matching numbers stamped on the front of the scabbard tip. Also the scabbard cutter plate is a one piece machined part compared to the later versions which are stamped and secured in the scabbard body with a filler piece. Pictures are of early version on the left compared to a later version. Also note the differences in the belt hanger. Mike

Here are pictures of the scabbard cutter plate differences. Early style machined on the left and later style stamped on the right. Mike

My first pattern Hungarian is matching but was an Iraqi war Vet bring-back I got at the S.O.S. show last year. It has the mottled grips and came in a Romy dark green web/leather frog with a somewhat odd, black "spongy rubber" insulator. Also had a fashionable piece of pink nylon twine wrapped around the grip, too!

Now I have to unpack my bayonets to see if my Hungarians are early or late. Suspect all 3 are late. So now I have to look for an early one.
*sigh*
Another to add to the want list.

Here are my two numbered military issued Munkásör’s. One is slightly more reddish than the other. Both are matching numbers in excellent condition. Once cosmoline soaked. Coming straight from Hungaria.
These are some of my absolute favourite ak bayonets due to the overall nice bakelite finish, fit and quality of hungarian ak bayos
