Egyptian AKM Wrist Strap Variations

Post by Mr. B. »

This is something that I had noticed when inspecting Egyptian AKM bayonets. Like most fabric wrist straps there are different colors/shades of these straps. However I also noticed two different distinctive weave patterns, square vs diagonal. M.

Yes, there are two different types. it is different material and they feel in hand different. Also there is difference in size. It is almost impossible to find two of same length.

The original Egyptian AKM 6X4 wrist straps all seem to be the single buckle style with a large bright riveted loop. They are made of what appears to be a coarse green to dark green woven cotton fabric. There are at least two weave patterns, diagonal and square. Most of the buckles are painted black. Egyptian bayonets were exported to various other countries and they are occasionally found with replacement straps. Mike
