Re: Belt Hanger Identification
From the 1st picture my guess was a one found on reworked Russian AKM 6X3 Type I bayonets. You confirmed it under the 2nd picture. When these bayonets were replace by 6X4 bayonets they were inspected and reworked before being placed in storage as reserves. Usually new hangers were installed. They us...

Re: Is it Russian or Finnish AK47 bayonet?
Hi rakysk. Welcome to the forum. This AK47 bayonet looks like it has been issued and used, but still in decent condition. From what I can see in the pictures, It was manufactured at the Izhevsk arsenal in Russia to fill an export contract with Finland. This can be confirmed by the arrow in triangle ...

Re: Belt Hanger Identification
I posted a new topic under the Yugo heading for the hangers and straps. These ersatz hangers could have been made at any place at any time. They are easy to hand fabricate using surplus bits and pieces. Many could have been made up for the collectors market. Because of this, I don't really collect t...

Re: Belt Hanger Identification
Here are pictures of the snap hook assemblies used of your ersatz Yugo hanger. These hooks were mass-produced by various US and foreign companies with minor variations. They were used on all sorts of military field gear from the 1950s -1970s. They are readily available even today in sizes from 3/4&q...

Re: Yugoslavian AKM Belt Hangers & Wrist Straps
Here is what a selection of Yugoslavian AKM wrist straps looks like. I bought a large lot of new and used ones a few years ago, complete with buckles. They came in a sealed bag covered with dirt, oil and grease. II washed them in Woolite and they came out nice. I was amazed at the different colors, ...

Re: Yugoslavian AKM Belt Hangers & Wrist Straps
Here is another group of variations I refer to as Yugo ersatz hangers. This group is without metal brackets. Two are sewn together and one is riveted. Two have snap fasteners on the hilt loop, one has a non-Yugo stud. All three have a large "D" ring that is more squared than the previous o...

Re: Yugoslavian AKM Belt Hangers & Wrist Straps
During the Balkan Conflicts in the 1990s the different fractions/countries used a lot of Yugoslavian bayonets and scabbard as well as those from other ComBloc countries. However there seems to have been a shortage of hangers. After the fighting ended there were lots of hand made or small lots of non...

Yugoslavian AKM Belt Hangers & Wrist Straps
It was brought to my attention that this forum had no pictures or information regarding Yugo frog and straps so here goes. As far as I know there is only one standard original issue hanger. It is a natural tan or brown leather "T" style snap hook hanger. The ones I've seen all have had a u...

Re: Belt Hanger Identification
By the way welcome to the forum! Nice looking collection! Lots of interesting items. Any plans to display it? Please feel welcome to share any info or pictures that you might have. Thanks for pointing out that the forum is lacking pictures and info on Yugo hangers. I'll try to start a new hanger top...

Re: Belt Hanger Identification
Hi Richard. The hanger you posted is generally thought of as being Yugoslavian. However that may not be true. This version seems to have been made by one of the countries involved in the 1990s Balkan conflict. They became some what common with surplus field gear after that. The one you picture appea...
Re: INSAS
Here is an example of what Windlass Steel Craft can produce. This is a replica that they make which is listed on eBay. It is a copy of a British WWII era Enfield N0. 5 MKI jungle carbine bayonet and scabbard. Note that the markings include that of the original manufacture R.F.I. which is the Royal F...

Re: Russian Snap Hook Hangers AKM - AK74
Here are a couple more Russian snap hook hangers that I recently received from a dealer in the Russian Federation. I usually do not collect specialty items, parade, dress, special issue etc.. However, these made a nice display as they represent both early and late issue items. The one on the left is...

Re: New style VZ58 scabbard?
I recently found a picture online that shows some additional variations of this style of Czech VZ58 scabbards. The different "woodland" pattern, second from right, has camouflaged edging and hilt strap were as the first pattern, second from left, had plain color. The scabbard on the far le...

Re: Romanian AKM 6X3 Type I Bayonets & Scabbards
Perhaps this would be a good place to mention the variations to be found in the Rubber Insulators on the Romanian AKM 6X3 Type I scabbards. The insulators are the standard style with no known markings and questionable quality control compared to those from other ComBloc countries. However they are v...

Re: Romanian AKM 6X3 Type I Hanger Variations
The Romanian hangers pictured above are just a few of the ones I have kept as representative samples. In my opinion there is no end to the amount of variations to be found in these hangers. There does not appears to be any standardization or specifications in the materials and construction. The same...
