Re: Romanian AK47 Bayonet & Scabbard
Here is another picture of the typical early AKM 6X3 Type I leather snap hook hangers. It shows the usual dark reddish brown leather with embossed edge lines. Mike

Re: Romanian AK47 Bayonet & Scabbard
Supposedly the Romanians did not manufacture the AK47 rifles or bayonets. They imported them from other ComBloc countries. This bayonet & scabbard appears similar to those made in Bulgaria. Perhaps made for a contract to Romania? The Bulgarians did not usually make a leather hanger. This bayonet...

Romanian AK47 Bayonet & Scabbard
This is the AK47 bayonet that I believe to be Romanian. It appears to a Bulgarian bayonet. However, it has a brown leather belt hanger with embossed edge lines. The Bulgarian ones usually have a fabric belt loop and a leather hilt strap. I does have a similar number, but the numbers are a different ...

Congratulations! Another nice addition. I believe Brian is the expert on these bayonet. Maybe he’ll have some comments? I’ve given up on even having one, or even any Romy Type II for that matter. Mike

Re: Iraqi Tabuk AKM Type II
Hi Alexander, Please inspect your Iraqi scabbard with the Yugo type rectangular mold mark on the top front side. Does it have the Iraqi or Yugo type spew mark? That would tell us where it was made. It would also be interesting to check out all of your Iraqi bayonets and scabbards to see if they conf...

Re: Iraqi Tabuk AKM Type II
Since we are on the subject of mold marks. All the makers of Type II bayonets and scabbards use the same basic material. The material is heated to a semi-liquid and pressure injected into a two piece mold. As the material is injected into the mold it forces the air out of the mold. This requires ven...

Re: Iraqi Tabuk AKM Type II
As a side note the color and marbling differences are from the way the color is added and mixed with the basic material. The basic or matrix material used in most of the Type II grips and scabbard bodies has a natural yellow to light tan color. Similar to Russia and Bulgaria a shade of red coloring,...

Re: Iraqi Tabuk AKM Type II
A good example of all this is available on the previous page. Brian posted pictures of 5 different Iraqi Type II bayonets and scabbards to illustrate the color differences. Enlarge and examine them closely. They also display a lot of the molding variations. Notice the Yugo style one with the rectang...

Re: Iraqi Tabuk AKM Type II
Hi Alexander, Good to hear from you. It’s been quiet around here. Nice picture showing the similarity but also slight differences between the Yugo and Iraqi production. During my research I found no evidence that the Yugos produced any of the orange bayonets or scabbards for Iraq. The Yugos could ha...

Re: Romanian made egyptian AKM type II bayonet?
Yes, it does seem very similar to the mixmaster bayonets and scabbards posted here and elsewhere. Very interesting, thanks for sharing. I could not keep from thinking this may have been recorded at terrorist training camp. I was waiting to see him demonstrating a decapitation using the bayonet. Mike

Re: Vietnam AKM Bayonet
Congratulations. Nice addition to your collection. These are getting rare, only a small number made to start with and no more to be made. One note of interest. This is the first East German scabbard I have seen with these bayonets that has been issued, (issue/pairing number). All the ones I have obs...

Re: Russia 6x2 AK47 Bayonet
As usual, not enough detailed information in the provided pictures. What information that is there is conflicting and confusing. Not sure where to start. First it appears that the bayonet and scabbard are miss-matched. Let’s start with the scabbard. It is the early style with the two band hanger bra...

Re: Type I Flat Pommel Variation
Super nice! Original and like NEW with consecutive numbers! Very nice find. For me these two set the standards for the flat pommel bayonets. Also note that the BA series is unique as all the ones confirmed have only three numbers. Probably a little more scarce that the others?

Re: Bayonets
Hi Stefan, You are correct! The one one the right is a Bulgarian AK47 6X2 bayonet and scabbard. Later versions, appear to be in nice condition. The one on the left is an East German AKM 6X4 Type II bayonet and scabbard. The bayonet has the orange grip from early 6X4 production before they switched t...

Re: Differents arrows in triangle. Need explanations...
Wow, very impressive addition. Congratulations! These true matching numbered “Transitional” bayonets are difficult to find. One of the empty spots on my display wall. I’ve handled / inspected a few over the years, but never owned one. When available, they were and still are, out of my price range. M...
