Re: Albanian ASH 78 Folding Spike Bayonet

Here is a picture from the Russian reference book compared to the one in my collection. Note, the one in the book has rough circular machining on the front. Mine is as cast, no machining on the front. Mike

Re: Albanian ASH 78 Folding Spike Bayonet

Hi Marc, Here are some detailed pictures of what is suspected to be an Albanian ASH 78 bayonet. Left to Right in all pictures are an early Chinese T56 with milled/machined hilt, a later Chinese with a cast hilt, and the Albanian cast hilt. What appears to be corrosion on the Albanian are from the ro...

Re: Albanian ASH 78 Folding Spike Bayonet

Yes, I have that book too. I had missed the “R” stamp. I didn’t associate it with the one I have. The “R”s do look the same. I guess if I trust this book I may have an Albanian spike? I have asked for confirmation from other sources which may help. Several of the ASH 78 parts kits have been imported...

Albanian ASH 78 Folding Spike Bayonet

A collector recently posted online looking for detailed pictures of an Albanian ASH 78 folding spike bayonet. This rifle and bayonet are a copy of a Chinese AKM Type 56. There are several differences in the rifle, but the bayonet, (blade and sliding hilt), appears to be the same as the Chinese ones....

Re: Romanian Unmarked Bayonet

There are many differences. The most obvious to me is the hook at the bottom of the crossguard. Other than a few early Russian Type I bayonets, only the Hungarian ones have a round hook. All the others are more angular. The leather on the Hungarian hanger is natural with a white waxy finish. The Rom...

Hi Stefan, Another nice example. Yugoslavian AKM 6X4 Type II bayonet and scabbard. It is in excellent condition with matching numbers and has the correct accessories. You are building up a nice collection. When you have the time and interest you could sit down and compare your E.G. Type II with this...

Hi Stefan,
It appears that you had a good day and aquired some nice examples. However, I am not sure about this one. What makes you think it is Romanian? Mike

Hi Stefan, Another nice find. East German AKM 6X4 Type II (Modell 74) bayonet and scabbard. Excellent late production with matching numbers and correct accessories. It has a unique “A” mark on the scabbard cutter plate. I don’t remember seeing this before. I will need do some research. Any one else ...

Re: Finnish M62

Hi Stefan, Very nice examples! These are rare and getting very expensive to acquire. Now you need to find one by Hackman to complete the maker variations. The ones with out the makers name are generally harder to find. The one I had appeared to have been made by Fiskars when comparing details. A lot...

Re: Russian AKM 6X3 Type I -II Transitional Bayonets and Scabbards

Very nice example! I am envious. I never have owned one of these.
Now you have to find the Tula version of the transitional. They have the 6X4 Type II bayonets in the 6X3 Type I scabbards with the original matching numbers. They are even rarer? Mike

Just curious, is this a private display or a public one like a museum? Rare to see examples.

VERY Interesting! Great pictures. All new to me. Something else to add to my needs / want list. Any idea where someone could obtain one?
I notice the unusual rectangular bulge shape on the side from the ricasso to mid-blade. I would suppose that is for adde strength ? Mike

Re: Chromed bayonet

Very interesting pictures! Unfortunately all new to me. A complete mystery, both rifles and bayonets. One bayonet actually seems to be wearing a condom? To prevent snagging a flag? Hopefully Brian can provide more information / pictures. It’s in his neck of the woods!?

Re: Finland AK47 Bayonet and Scabbard Variations

II have been doing some research concerning Russian AK47 belt hangers including these ones for the Finnish contracts. The Finnish ones at the top of this page included a first contract one with a black all leather hanger. It is unusual being all leather, strange bright rivet and unusual. I pulled th...

Re: Romanian AK47 Bayonet & Scabbard

I apologize. I use the term AK47 to differentiate from the AKM and AK74. Yes, there are better, correct descriptions. However, sometimes it is better to simplify? You are correct. There is no record of Romania ever manufacturing AK47 rifles or bayonets. However, It is known that they did import smal...

Re: Romanian AK47 Bayonet & Scabbard

Supposedly the Romanians did not manufacture the AK47 rifles or bayonets. They imported them from other ComBloc countries. This bayonet & scabbard appears similar to those made in Bulgaria. Perhaps made for a contract to Romania? The Bulgarians did not usually make a leather hanger. This bayonet...
