Re: Early wood grip VZ58 Bayonet

My wood grip is in a pebble scabbard dated 1960. It appears to be all original. I also have a short tang no visible rivet in a pebble scabbard that's date is gone. I have other rivet configuration short tang, rounded cross guard knives in smooth leather scabbards dated 61 and 62. My only long tang i...

Experimental 6X5 Hanger

Folks,

I don't have the correct hanger on my experimental 6X5, the hanger without the D-ring. Looking to buy one to complete my set up.

Re: Wazzit?

You can go absolutely crazy looking at hangers. This is a good example. I stopped trying to collect all the sub-variations years ago. I have tried to get as many of the major variations of Russian hangers pictured in the manuals, but still am missing some early ones of those and still need the type ...

Re: Wazzit?

Mike, I've had a hanger with a canvas belt loop for years. Came off a used Russian 6H3 that I pulled out of a bin Northridge had of them. It has the flattened D-Ring but the thorn is brass.

Re: Russian AKM 6X3 Type I bayonets and scabbards

I believe Ilian is correct. The second mark is a T in triangle which, I believe, is a Tula proof mark.

Re: 6x4 with "window" on scabbard

From what I've found out so far, it appears that the "window pane" mark belongs to another factory in the city of Tula that makes sub assemblies and repair parts. Possibly Toshmash.

I believe Libya produced a copy of the Chinese Type 56 AK, but may be wrong.

Re: Romanian made egyptian AKM type II bayonet?

My version of this has the same grip but with a Polish style blade (no saw teeth). It has the yellow glue filled in around the gaps like the Egyptian bayonets I own. Scabbard looks to be early Maadi production made from Russian parts. Scabbard has 4 digit Eastern Arabic serial number but knife doesn...

Re: Romanian Type II variations

Brian thanks for the clarification.
So my bayonet has the same mold styles for the logo and the number 1 as the SA contract bayonets but is not an SA contract bayonet.

Re: Romanian Type II variations

Brian,

My example of what you describe as the South African Contract variation with the 1 on the scabbard instead of the I is serial number 7076.

Re: Wazzit?

To answer the question as to why someone would make a fake of a bayonet that is not really that expensive for an original, its simple cheap labor and cheap materials. Pakistan, China, etc. have dirt cheap labor. With that and cheap materials, they can probably crank these fakes for $2 or $3 total co...

Re: AIMS-74 Bayonet

Both of my 6x4/6x3 Romanian bayonets have the Dark Green hanger like the bayonet on the right in Dragur2791's photos. They came from two different sources and to the best of my knowledge the hangers are original to the bayonets. Many people in the US try to say that these all should have the Bright ...

Re: Russian AKM 6X3 Type I bayonets and scabbards

Mike,

I have a theory about the double marked bayonets with both Izhevsk and Tula arsenal marks. My belief is that they were produced by one factory and later reworked by the other.

Re: border guard bayonet

Very nice. I find it interesting that this is a 6X4 knife in a 6X3 scabbard.
I have a standard orange grip 6X4 Izhevsk knife in a match numbered 6X3 scabbard. It has a 3 digit serial number.
I also noted that the standard orange plastic grip pin was used.
