Re: I'm going with Bulgarian? Probably.

It's with a bunch of other edged weapons that I have a bit of an interest in ... if the price is right I'll grab the lot and have a closer look at it.

I'm going with Bulgarian? Probably.

Many indicators pointing to Bulgarian ... but that font. It's different ... a bit larger than the norm?
No other visible markings that I could see. Not my pics so best I've got.

Re: Early Russian AK47 Type I

Thanks for your time and consideration on this piece Mike. It had me guessing too and the quirks are what drew me to it. I doubt we'll ever really know what it's all about and can now only hypothesise about it. I wondered, as did you, if the acceptance is stamp was obliterated because it was pulled ...

Re: Early Russian AK47 Type I

Thanks Mike ... you're correct of course. It had been nagging at me from the first time I saw the pics. The seller had said it was early Russian but I had my doubts. It is a Russian made piece with the Izhevsk stamp on the cross guard. I could not see an acceptance mark on the pommel but then the pi...

Re: Early Russian AK47 Type I

... The best way to get help identifying one is to post pictures here and getting advice/opinions from others. ... Managed to reformat these to show better clarity of the scabbard in question. The bayo is legit with correct inspection/arsenal marks and number placement but the seller unnerved me wi...

Early Russian AK47 Type I

Can someone please advise ... did they ever have scabbards with a leather hanger and retaining strap, no drain hole in the front and possibly none at all and double bands.

Re: Russian AK47 Contract Bayonet and Scabbard?

I acquired one of the late production items within the last year ... (NOS). It is very similar to that shown in this post. Mine has no serial numbers though. It does have the flattened diamond inspection mark on the pommel but is very shallow. The Izzy arrow on mine is not 'obliterated' but is not a...

Re: Not seen these before

Those are some very nice stamps! Following Mike's valued comments I decided to look more closely at other Russian variants in my modest collection and in the main they all have something to offer by way of inspection marks. I'm now prepared to have duplicate bayonets that carry different inspection...

I don't normally buy from the UK ... I have a number of contacts that I like to use. The dealers in the UK don't have much interest in AK stuff what they do have I don't consider to be very good examples and they tend to take the piss with pricing.

Re: Not seen these before

... thanks Mike. I looked more closely at some others in my collection and see evidence of marks below the finish as you suggest. All rather interesting if not fascinating.

This group was selected for overall condition, placement of arsenal marks (either on the grips and/or crossguard and pedestal). They were also...

Not seen these before

So I was using the magnifying function on my phone (a cool feature) and decided to try to interpret the inspection marks on one of my new Tulas. I don't have them on any of my other Russian 6H4's ... Arsenal marks yes but not inspection stamps. Are they common? I notice that one side has the OTK mar...

It really is ...
So I went gap filling. Nice examples of 6H4 Tula and Izhevsk sporting very different type 1 & 2 characteristics and markings along with a rather nice Tula 6H3

Can anybody please point me to pics of a disassembled 6H4. I saw photos a few weeks back whilst looking for something else and now can't seem to find them or the subject matter.

Thank you for commenting Mike ... I appreciate the benefit of your remarkable knowledge. The market is very subdued at present but I'm looking forward to the time when we can hopefully get back out and continue the hunt with some semblance of normality.
