Re: Another sad loss - Bill Porter

Sorry to hear that news, especailaly having just gone through chemotherpay and an operation earlier this year myself, after being diagnosed with Oesphagus cancer last October. Thankfully the surgeons appear to have operated early enough on me, so I am hoping to have a few years life left in me yet. ...

Re: New Member Introductions

Welcome on board NIC056. Having spent the best part of the last 25 years working in Algeria, often with the Algerian Army or Gendarmes. During that time, I have never seen an Algerian soldier with a bayonet, except in photos, when they are used for parade purposes. The last unit I worked with last y...

Re: Sturm Export Type I

That is the only East German I have that is marked on the blade. The majority of the ones in my collection had no import markings. A few had a variety of adhesive stickers like the one above. Others came in cartons and sealed bags with the original East German inventory labels. Mike Cheers Mike, I ...

Re: Russian AKM 6X4 Type II with Light Weight Pommel

Mike,
I bought that about 10 years ago and counted myself fortunate to have found it back then, as not many 'light weight pommel' 6X4's came up on the market in Europe back then.

Re: Izmash TypeII

I have been collecting AK bayonets for about 40 years and have never seen or heard about any evidence of Tula producing an AKM 6X4 Type III lightened pommel or bayonet. I have a shelf full of reference books and material and they all agree that only Izhevsk produced the Type III. However, new infor...

Re: Sturm Export Type I

Richard, The pictures with the red background are of one of my bayonets, not Curt's. I just grabbed one off the wall to illustrate the matching numbers. I noticed the blade marking at that time. Not sure if it was because of different import requirements at different times or perhaps different expo...

Re: Izmash TypeII

Does anyone know if the Tula arsenal produced an AKM 6X4 Type III lightened pommel bayonet?

In my collection I have a brand new unissued Izhevsk example, but I have never seen one produced by the Tula arsenal.

Re: Sturm Export Type I

Curt, That is the first DDR Modell 59 I have seen with the blade marked 'Mfg Germany', despite being an issued bayonet, as the serial numbers show. Nice addition to the collection, and I'll double check mine when I get a chance, I have two Modell 59's, to see if their blades are marked 'Mfg Germany'...

Besides, I got to get home ASAP to handle that gorgeous Valmet bayo I bought from RPBCPS! Thanks again Richard. You are welcome, I hope you enjoy owning the bayonet, as much as I did. Re: Bulgarian AK47 Hybrid Bayonet & Scabbard

Martin, always good to have confirmation. Around the same tine, I personally knew an arms dealer here in the UK, who bought the entire stock of weapons and a lot of armour from the Bosnian Govt. His intention was to sell the AKS and support weapons to the new Iraqi army, via the US dept. of defence....

Re: Bulgarian AK47 Hybrid Bayonet & Scabbard

I found this information on line, which may be of interest: "In 2004, Arsenal Co. began contracting with the U.S. Government to supply Kalashnikov rifles to equip the reconstituted New Iraqi Army. Arsenal Co. was chosen as a supplier for two reasons: 1) Bulgaria was a coalition member supportin...
