Re: Russian 6H5 genuine or souvenir?

Hi Bas, I am not sure what to tell you. It appears to me to an original, as issued, Russian AK74 6X5 bayonet and scabbard. It is the early first variation with the narrow crossguard. Mine is Plum colored with specks. I can not tell if yours is plum or black from your pictures. I understand about the...

More pictures of my Polish 1970 bayonet with “Green” grips and black painted finish. Shown with a standard 1958 version at the bottom for comparison. Mike

Re: Polish AK47 Bayonet & Scabbard Variations

Hi Mark, Thanks for your very interesting post! I have said, “always something new to learn”, and this is proof. To my knowledge no one has ever mentioned the “Green” grips. No, I have not seen this green on any other countries AK47 6X2 bayonets. I did not even notice it on one in my collection. Min...

Re: Polish AK47 Bayonet Production & Serial Numbers?

Hi Dange, Nice find! The Polish AK47 bayonets and scabbards with the 1970 dates are somewhat scarce. This post section is primarily concerning the “P” “A” and “Z” production / serial numbers. If you are interested in more info and pictures of 1970’s go down to and click on “ Poland” on the home page...

Re: North Korean Transitionals

I recently received some new barrowed pictures of a T58 (AK47) to T68 (AKM) transitional bayonet. Comparing these new pictures with the pictures of the T58 and T68 we already have gives us a better idea of how they were made. The main change was the machining of the crossguard and latch block. The h...

Re: Is this a bayonet for an AK?

Hi Rafal, First the Ad you linked was totally messed up. It is not an Yugo M64. It has a stamped receiver? The description lists it as a Polish M64? I would not buy from this company! There were many different versions of the Yugo M64. (M64A, B, C, etc.). There was no mass production until the M70s....

Re: East German AKM 6X3 Type I Scabbard differences

Hi Benni, The best thing to do is spend some time going through all the “ Germany “ posts. That will answer most of your questions or at least give you things to consider. I guess I would keep the old bayonet and scabbard just because of condition to display. It’s unfortunate that it does not have m...

Re: Is this a bayonet for an AK?

Here is a better picture that shows the relationship of the bayonet to the rifle. The line drawing is to Scale 1:1. The two pictures from Rafal, side annd top view, are scaled as close as I could get them. One of his pictures had a tape measure along the hilt. This indicated that the hilt measured 4...

Re: Is this a bayonet for an AK?

Hi Marc, Yes, These drawings help confirm what we could visualize from the enlarged pictures. From the one on the left we can “see” the standard muzzle attachment and a full section. On the right we can “see” that the bayonet would not mount over the granade launching spigot. However, the one on the...

Re: Is this a bayonet for an AK?

Hello Beryl, Thanks to a suggestion from Benni it looks like we may have an answer. Yes, it appears to be an AK bayonet. To be specific, possibly a test or prototype bayonet for an early Yugoslav Model M64 rifle. This picture is not quite to scale, but does show the relative attachment points. Every...

Re: Yugo fighting knife

Hi Gerhard, As usual, excellent documented information! Thank you for your expertise! Also as usual, always something new to learn or remember as we grow older. I had forgotten about the 6X3 Yugos. Best regards, Mike. PS: Check out the new posts about the “mystery” Yugo AK47 style bayonet. Possible?

Re: Yugo fighting knife

Benni, This kamp knife appears to have been made from an AKM 6X3 Type I bayonet and scabbard. This view of the hilt shows that the pins in the wood hilt align with the holes in the 6X3 hilt tang. It is unknown if or where the internal pommel was removed. If they drilled out the rivets and removed th...

Re: Yugo fighting knife

Hello again Benni,
Another thing to consider is if this knife is even Yugoslavian at all? This is a translation of the front of the instructions. Camp Knife Flag. Features and Operating Instructions. Red Flag Institution, (Company?). Kragujevac, (SERBIA!). Mike

Re: Yugo fighting knife

Hi Benni, First of all this is not an AK bayonet. It is a commercial “Camp Knife” converted from an AK bayonet and scabbard. It is a very interesting conversion. It appears to be very functional, well made and has a nice appearance. Personally I would have preferred a metal pommel though!? However, ...

Re: Is this a bayonet for an AK?

For me this is the best information so far regarding the mystery bayonet! The early M64 above looks like a possibility. I’ll have to do some more research. Not to sure about the M56 SMG. Will study some references / pictures. Mike

Re: Hungarian commemorative bayonet

The eBay number works for me. Maybe due to the location? Here are the pictures and info from the listing. Too much of a coincidence not to share!? Compare with yours. Unfortunately nothing special about the bayonets or scabbards. Each just picked from a pile of rework and put together randomly. Both...

Sorry for the delayed response. We had not discussed value. They are not “inexpensive”. Below is a current listing on eBay, (# 73951757642). Seller is Buldozjor in Latvia. Price is US $650.00. The item is very similar to yours. Your plaque is in better condition. His has the complete belt hanger. Th...

Re: Hungarian commemorative bayonet

Hi Bastiaan, Welcome to our Forum. Yes, bayonets like this are a curiosity. There are some collectors that specialize in presentation and commemorative items. Others prefer just military issued examples. The Hungarian ones are a little more common than other types. Your translation of the plaque was...

Re: Polish 6H4? What are your thoughts?

Yes, it could be some backyard Bubba messing around with a 3D printer. However, it could also be a valid experimental piece as they are testing different materials and processes. Testing the fit and dimensions before marking new molds? After all they were experimenting with molding the grip directly...
