Supporting this forum

Hi all, As you know, this forum is free and will remain so. Hosting and domain costs are borne by myself in the in the interests of expanding our knowledge of AK bayonets and related. I feel we have a remarkable amount of info gathered here, even though this is a limited and small field of interest....

Re: Russian Green !?

Finally an answer. The fourth version of the 6×4 series of AK bayonets is the rarest one. This bayonet was made by another Soviet arms designing plant – TsNII TochMash. Possibly, this was an experimental bayonet although it was issued in small quantities. It was largely identical to the 6X4 Type 2 w...

Awesome article. Finally we have a conclusion to the "pebbled 6X4" bayonets.

6X3 "Square round back!"
Ha!

Pictured there, and what we were debating about whether they are arsenal repairs or original.

Re: Polish Commemoratives

That is a good question. Would they take an issued bayonet and then use it as a commemorative?
My gut feel says no. Anyone with a laser engraver nowadays can do that. I would be cautious personally.

Re: Wazzit?

Remember the Khyber Pass (Darra) gunsmiths will hand make an entire weapon, either accurately to the real one, or doing a hybrid of various weapons. They do this for fun, profit and warfare. And they do it with crude hand tools and basic machinery. It is nothing for them to turn out a copy of a bayo...

Re: Egyptian AKM 6X4 Type II Bayonet W/O Sawteeth

Logic suggests that unless it is modified, the parts (at least the blade) must have been supplied by Poland. Hmmm....needs some research into the beginning of Maadi production.

Re: Russian AKM 6X3 Type I bayonets and scabbards

Anyone's guess. They were bought from the Zim army by a British dealer about 15 years ago, who sold them off. I would have expected them to have been from new rifles, but no way to know.

Re: border guard bayonet

I am fairly sure that scabbard is not original to the bayo. Stamping may have been done later. There is no info that these were ever issued with Type 1 sheaths. Nice bayo, but needs more research.

Re: Russian AKM 6X3 Type I bayonets and scabbards

What makes you think the "square round-back" ones are reworked?
I have 3 of them, and have always thought they are very early type 1's. I'll have to check mine out again, but didn't think they were reworked. One came out of Zimbabwe many years ago.

Re: Few different Chinese bayonets

The "CHINA" markings would have been done by an importer, and these were obviously imported at a time when country of origin was required by law and they had to be done in a hurry or face confiscation. Similar to a lot of militaria and other stuff towards the end of the 80's that were conf...

Re: East German AKM 6X3 Type I bayonet Modified Pommel

On the same note...I had a Izhmash deact SVD (modern style) at work that we imported from them years ago, and a 6x3 would not fit that one.
So I'm thinking there was some change in the lug at some point.

Re: Romanian type II plastic scabbard romanian army issue

Fantastic. Did this one also come from the USA (AoA) or was it found in Europe?
I think there are still a great many questions about these.
